The People’s Organization for Progress will begin a march in downtown Newark this Saturday at 12 noon in front of the Lincoln Monument, at the corner of West Market Street and Springfield Avenue. The largely publicized Million People’s March against police brutality, racial injustice, and economic inequality is cosponsored by over one hundred organizations. Here are twenty five reasons to be there on the twenty fifth.
1) Because 137 shots is excessive
2) Because minimum wages have gone down
3) Because Larry Hamm came to Plainfield to ask for your support
4) Because the US is the largest prison state in the world
5) Because of Michael Brown
6) Because the corporate media ignores you if you’re not in the street
7) Because your #hashtags only go so far
8) Because incarceration is out of control
9) Especially for some of us
10) Because the pipeline begins in preschool
11) Because Walter Scott won’t make it there
12) Because of the Charleston Victims
13) Because college tuition won’t stop going up
14) Neither will student debt
15) Because that still doesn’t mean a job
16) Because the NSA tracks everything you say
17) Because a loosey should not be a death sentence
18) Because who’s next?
19) Because the punishments do not fit the crimes
20) Because no one’s really looking at your Facebook
21) Because innocent Byron Halsey did 22 years
22) Because national problems are Plainfield problems
23) Because I have your Saturday schedule from the main train station – $14 round trip
24) Or Netherwood – $12 round trip
25) Because…
Word. Reason #26. Because Sandra Bland spoke up for her dignity and died because of it.
